Fees

How the test fee is set

The report to your water utility is part of every test.

  • When you get the number

We tell you the test fee when you book. A repair is quoted in writing after a failed test, before any work starts.

  • What happens at the visit

The tester runs the test, reads each check and relief valve, and explains pass or fail before leaving. The report to your water utility is part of every test.

  • After hours

There is no after-hours rate. Tests are weekday daytime visits.

  • If the job changes

Nothing is repaired until you approve the written price. After a repair we retest, and the passing report goes to your utility.

What moves the price

Five things set your fee

  • Size

A 3 inch assembly takes longer than a 1 inch one, so it costs more to test.

  • Type

A reduced pressure assembly has more to read than a pressure vacuum breaker.

  • Access

A flooded, buried or locked vault adds time. Tell us before the visit.

  • How many

Each added assembly on the same visit costs less than the first.

  • Result

A pass ends with the report. A fail adds a repair and a retest, quoted in writing first.

What the fee covers

In the fee, and not

  • In the test fee

    • A gauge test of every check and relief valve

    • Results written on your utility's form

    • The report sent to the utility, and a copy to you

    • Your assembly on next year's reminder list

  • Not in the test fee

    • Parts and labor to repair a failed assembly

    • Digging out or pumping a buried or flooded vault

    • Assemblies that need a lift or confined-space entry

    • Any filing fee your utility charges

Tests are weekday visits during the day. There is no night or weekend service.

If a test fails

A repair quote, line by line

You see the lines, with a total, before anyone touches the assembly.

  • Rebuild a failed 1 inch reduced pressure assembly

What a repair quote looks like after a failed test.

    • Relief valve and check seat kit
    • Labor, one technician, about an hour
    • Retest and report

Yours is written before work starts and you approve it first.

  • Replace a failed 1 inch assembly

When rebuilding no longer makes sense.

    • New 1 inch reduced pressure assembly
    • Labor and fittings
    • Test and report on the new assembly
    • City permit, if required, at cost

Assembly make, trenching and permit fees change the total.

Parts and labor depend on the assembly and the site. Nothing is repaired until you approve the written price.

Know how many assemblies you have?

Send the count and the sites. We reply with a total for the first visit and a day on the route.
